The LIFE-ONE study, the first clinical research published in Spain on real-time glucose monitoring with Dexcom sensors in people with type 2 diabetes treated with insulin, took center stage in conclusions presented by endocrinology specialists this week.
After 12 weeks of follow-up, participants showed improvements in several glycemic control parameters, along with greater satisfaction and quality of life associated with using the sensor. Dr. Ana Chico, an endocrinologist at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona and the study's principal investigator, highlighted how well the device was received by participants.
Despite this clinical evidence, access to continuous glucose monitoring still varies widely depending on the region. As Dr. Chico put it, "the technology already exists; the challenge now is making it reach everyone who could benefit from it."
