At the major 2026 diabetes technology conferences, Abbott presented progress on a sensor able to simultaneously monitor glucose and ketone levels in interstitial fluid.

This feature is especially relevant for early prevention of diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication that can develop quickly, particularly in people with type 1 diabetes. Being able to see both values on a single device, without extra tests, would allow an earlier response to warning signs.

Dexcom, for its part, also shared new clinical data supporting the integration of its sensors with automated insulin delivery systems, reinforcing the trend toward so-called "closed-loop" systems.
